What is Mantra Meditation?

Mantra meditation is a type of meditation that involves repeating a word, phrase, or sound (known as a mantra) to focus the mind and cultivate inner peace. Mantra meditation has roots in Hindu and Buddhist traditions, but it has become a popular form of meditation in many cultures.

During a mantra meditation session, the participant will typically sit comfortably with their eyes closed and repeat their chosen mantra silently or aloud for a period of time. The mantra serves as a point of focus, helping to quiet the mind and bring a sense of calm and inner stillness.

Mantra meditation can be practiced alone or in a group setting, and it can be done for as little as a few minutes or as long as several hours.

Research shows that mantra meditation has a range of benefits, including reduced stress and anxiety, improved sleep, and increased well-being.

Mantra in Sanskrit means mind vehicle.  The idea behind using a specific mantra is that it helps the mind settle into a state of deep relaxation and awareness.  The Mantra is a vehicle to transport the mind.  By repeating the mantra in a specific way, the mind can become more focused and less distracted, leading to a state of deep restfulness and rejuvenation.

Ann Malik

MEDITATION FACILITATOR

Ann started attending yoga at Synergy shortly after Alyssa opened in Barrington in 2005.  Alyssa planted the first seeds of breathe, awareness, and spirituality.  So it is fitting that Ann share her meditation teaching with the Synergy community.

Ann’s meditation practice began when she was fighting cancer.  It began with a desperation to survive but now continues with an awareness of endless possibilities, gratitude, and love.  She set out to learn as much as she could to save herself… and now that she is thriving, it’s time to give back and share her deep knowledge and inspiration with others.

Ann’s meditation experience includes numerous workshops, retreats, books, classes, and lots of self-exploration.

Highlights include studying Mindfulness and Meditation at Brown University,  attending meditation retreats  (including that time she and her husband did a 5 hour meditation with Dr. Joe Dispenza), Coherence Healings, the Silva Method, HeartMath, and Reiki teacher training at Thrive Tribe Collaborative.   Most impactful in her meditation teaching is her life experience of resilience, overcoming, accepting, thriving, and inspiring
